Master's degree programs: Application and enrollment

The Master's degree programs in Computer Science and Applied Computer Science require knowledge and skills that are taught in the corresponding Bachelor's degree programs. To enrol on a Master's degree course, you must provide proof of these prerequisites.

If you have any questions, the Student Advisory Service and the Master's Admissions Committee, as well as the DoKoLL for teacher training courses, will be happy to help you. If recognition issues need to be clarified in individual cases, please contact the Master's Admissions Committee. The Registrar's Office or the International Office will check the formal enrolment requirements and the Master's Admissions Committee for Computer Science will check the subject-specific enrolment requirements.

When can I enrol ...

Enrolment in the Master's degree programs in Computer Science and Applied Computer Science is possible

  • in the winter semester and
  • summer semester.

It is also possible to enrol during an ongoing semester, provided that you are able to study the first Master's semester in the current semester. This may be decided by the Master's admissions committee. If you wish to make use of this option, you will need to submit a study and examination plan for the first Master's semester in addition to the other necessary documents.

... with a Bachelor's degree (or Diplom) in Computer Science or Applied Computer Science from a German university?

If you have a Bachelor's degree (or Diplom) in Computer Science or Applied Computer Science from a German university, you can enroll directly in the Master's degree program in Computer Science or Applied Computer Science if you meet the following requirements.

  1. You have been awarded a Bachelor's degree (or a Diplom) from a German university.
  2. Your average grade is better than 3.0
  3. You can demonstrate a very good command of German by
    • a leaving certificate from a German-speaking school or
    • a degree from a German-speaking university
    • certified training in the German language or
    • through the German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education for Foreign Students (DSH).
  4. According to the Master's admission regulations from July 2013 in § 4(7), knowledge of English is only recommended

If you do not wish to enrol in a Master's degree program at the beginning of the semester, but within one semester, please enclose a study plan for the current semester explaining why you can study the first Master's semester without restrictions in the current semester.

... with a degree other than Computer Science or Applied Computer Science?

If you do not have a clearly relevant degree or are not sure whether your degree is equivalent,

The Master's admissions committee of the Faculty of Computer Science will decide on your admission. Further information can be found in the admission regulations.

If you do not wish to enrol in a Master's degree program at the beginning of the semester but within one semester, please enclose a study plan for the current semester explaining why you can study the first Master's semester without restrictions in the current semester.

... with a foreign degree?

If you have a foreign degree and are not sure whether your degree is equivalent,

The Admissions Committee of the Faculty of Computer Science decides on your admission on the basis of the applicant's personal suitability. Further information can be found in the admission regulations.

What do I have to do?

Apply to the Registrar's Office or the Department of International Affairs (International Office), which will also provide the necessary information on the enrolment process, stating your degree program.

The Registrar's Office or International Office and the Master's Admissions Committee for Computer Science will check the formal and subject-specific admission requirements and may request further documents if necessary. Finally, you will receive notification of admission or non-admission to the Master's degree program. If you are admitted, you can enrol.
